Skills Development is an important aspect of the BBBEE scorecard. BBBEE is a strategy that was set up by the South African government post-apartheid to give previously disadvantaged individuals access to quality education and entry into the workplace. 

Skills Development training focuses on how much a company is willing to invest in the training of their staff or unemployed or disabled individuals in South Africa. Companies need to meet certain regulations in order to receive BEE points and become BEE compliant.

By implementing Skills Development strategies, companies can benefit from receiving BEE points for their scorecard. Students benefit from receiving an accredited national certificate that they can use to apply for various jobs in their field of study.

A learnership can take up to 12 months while a course can generally take up to 4 days to complete.

This also depends on the course you have chosen to take. You may need competency in a certain skill or need prior knowledge of a subject you wish to facilitate, assess, or moderate.
